[...] A few months back, I wrote about the ghosts in the ipod, who swim about in the diodes and relays of your MP3 player, and choose songs which somehow soundtrack your mood. It is interesting to gaze upon an old, familiar sight, and yet feel new emotions, even notice new things, because the accompanying soundtrack has changed. [...]

I have an ipod ghost. My ipod goes off by itself, even when it's on hold, and only plays the irish punk stuff. I have over 57 bands on my ipod, 3 of them being irish punk bands, and it'll only play those bands when it goes off. What does this mean???

A classic example of AdSense Daemons over at Points of Jew, where an article about how Israel may go to war with a nuclear armed Iran is accompanied by "Cheap Flights to Tehran"!

Yes, Robert, but in that case, we have a tautology. I thought there was something more.

Yes Clarice, but I think we're referring to 'humanity' as something like 'the milk of human kindness' rather than 'humanity' as a species.

Cheers for the comment Shahid: it was actually your post about your unfortunate break in which made me think of the Google Daemons - They were insensitively advertising watches, as you lamented the loss of yours...

Um, the *presence* of humanity?

I say this because to the extent that "evil" exists at all as an actual entitiy, I don't think you'll find it outside the human race.

Great post - I can totally relate to this.

On a slightly more sombre note, what is evil if not the absence of humanity?

Well, Bert, I wish you would have said this to me when I was sober, instead of at dinner the other night. I like what you have written, and I think you make an excellent point. I also think the implications of the ipod ghosts could be explored further, although of course, in psychiatric circles, it's on the continuum of a symptom of schizophrenia and its cousins, commonly known as "delusions of reference". Personally, I would say there's no way of knowing whether its an illusion or not, and although I rather like the idea that it's true, I'm not entirely sure it matters. It's a philosophical point I suppose; there's an analogy with the Turing Test. Being a rather spiritual type and somewhat me-centered, I always say the Turing Test is good enough for me.
