Calvin agrees
Following my character assassination of Father Christmas (which made its way into Tim’s Britblog Round-up this week), it seems as if Calvin and Hobbes agree that Santa is running an incompetent organisation:

I love Calvin’s phrase “let’s get with the program, huh?” It has a haiku-like quality, and I have consciously stolen it on many occasions.

Ah, but you miss the fact that Calvin is very obviously an advocate of free markets and recognises the pernicious way in state action crowds out private competition that would serve the individual better.

Is “Let’s get with the program.” rarely used in the UK? I ask because your note about it implies a feeling that it is novel and it is actually in common use in the States. Because of that, however, I wouldn’t have taken much notice of it in this instance - and it’s actually pretty perfect in this spot, gets across Calvin’s particular frankness.

No, it’s not a particularly well used phrase in the UK. But we’ve seen enough US TV to have heard it many a time.
