Well well. I’m watching the by-election results on TV. The BNP saw fit to heckle and slow-hand clap the Labour Candidate Phil Wilson as he gave his by-election victory speech in Sedgefield.
One of the usually decent things about the democratic process is the (short) period of politeness and respect that follows an election result. In the immediate aftermath of an election, it is unseemly to criticise and abuse a candidate, especially one who has just been elected as an MP with a large majority. To do so is to insult and abuse that majority of citizens who have made their choice. By making a racket as Wilson spoke, the BNP expose themselves as arrogant thugs.
They even boo’ed when the Tory candidate gave his best wishes to Wilson’s family. Ugly.

Come on, Robert. Get with the programme. Boordom and the manners of beasts is what’s best for our society, quite clearly. Come the glorious ascendancy of Nick Griffin, we’ll all be ill-educated dickheads with delusions of adequacy.
And you have to admit that the BNP candidate in Sedgefield tonight merely looked like a product of brother/sister gene-splicing rather than the usual hastily assembled amalgamation of night soil.

Not wishing to get into eugenics, but given the BNP’s policies it is probably a good time to mention Hanif Kureishi’s defence of multiculturalism:
Strange (but not that surprising) that they resorted to churlish bully boy tactics when I thought they were trying to meke themselves a “respectable” mainstream party, as they are in France.
I think it’s a mistake to characterise them all as ignorant thugs though, Nick Griffin is a Cambridge graduate (law I think).

Justin – None taken and I fully understand your sentiment, however, by refusing to address them as anything other than fascist bully boys (which is what they are at ground level) the left is in my view making a tactical error.
