Most voters don't decide on primary candidates until the last moment because they have little to go on.

Its not that taking polls is a problem, its just that voters in a primary have not made a firm choice so the results are a little pointless. Unlike asking which football club do you support, which is invariant, most people lack sufficient information about candidates to decide until the last minute.

I may not be up to speed on this discussion but is it possible people were so sure Obama was going to win that they didn't vote. I mean if I was feeling unwell on polling day I would struggle out of my bed if I thought it was a close run race but might stay in bed if my television was telling me that Clintons campaign was in disarray and Hillary was looking defeat in the face. I certainly think opinion polls should be banned within a month of any election unless voting is compulsory as it is in Australia (although I don't think I agree with that)

Are you saying he's ugly!?

I'm not saying it because of Obama, actually. I've been worried about the impact of polling for a while. It is a Political Heisenberg effect.
