The Art of the Run-up

John Terry’s angst

Following last night’s drama in Moscow, I can only reiterate how important the run-up is to penalty-taking. Over half of the spot-kicks taken last night were actually quite shoddy, with both Van der Sar and Cech getting their fingers to most of the shots. However, a strong run-up from the shooter meant that the power was enough to carry the ball into the goal.

Meanwhile, Ronaldo, Terry and Anelka were all hesitant.

There’s probably a Gordon Brown metaphor to be found somewhere in all this, but I really can’t be bothered to pick it out.

  1. Yes, I noticed this as well.
What I can’t understand, is with all their training, and their nice big salaries, and all those suited overpaid know-it-alls in the background, how come the players don’t seem to know this? These are supposed to be two of the best teams in the world, aren’t they? So how come even this footbal-skeptical girl can see something they can’t?

  2. What I can’t understand is why Ronaldo rolled around on the floor, crying like a girl, even when they’d won.
I couldn’t decide which team I hated the most so was a true neutral for this one, but it would have been more more equitable, given that Man U already have the premiership, for Chelsea to win.

  3. Matt, it’s because that’s what he does best, isn’t it? That’s what he thinks playing football is, the slimy, childish little damp-eyed nancy-boy. He deserved to miss his penalty if you ask me, the arrogant little runt.

    Hear hear!
