Inbox Zero

Happy New Year!

I am going to bait the Bull of Fate by waving a big red New Year Resolution, which is this: I shall attempt to practice the Inbox Zero method in 2013.  It is essentially a common-sense mindset that prevents thousands of messages building up in your inbox, and (more importantly) makes you more productive and pro-active.

Here is an old but fascinating talk on the idea by its creator, Merlin Mann.

When I say “old”, I mean, like, 2007.  That is not particularly old in the grand sweep of history, but the talk does feel slightly dated in relation to its subject matter.  Mann doesn’t mention social networking, but the information ‘hose pipe’ he describes is surely complicated and exacerbated now that everyone has Twitter and Facebook streams flowing in parallel to the daily gush of e-mail.
