Today, the Speakers Corner Trust publishes a debate between myself and Dr Claire Fox from the Institute of Ideas over the proposition Political Correctness: Opening Eyes or Closing Minds? You can read it here.
The dialogue was a great opportunity to ask whether taking offence and expressing outrage are always forms of censorship. Perhaps they are just examples of people exercising their right to free speech, and therefore to be encouraged?
For her part, Claire Fox makes some pertinent counter-points about how ‘PC’ outrage can discourage political debate.
Readers will have to make up their own mind as to who has the better argument, but free speech means no-one gets to have the last word. I will certainly be blogging more about this in the coming weeks.
Enjoyed writing this exchange with @robertsharp59 – some important issues raised re contemporary free speech wars. Will be of interest to @instofideas & @DebatingMatters and indeed anyone following 'You can't say that' disputes https://t.co/svyK0F5DcF
